This list is by no means in an ideal order but it is what I think to be the 10 most important things required for a great Party.

I am sure that you will know some of them but if you forget something it could be the difference between a great party and a flop.

Here is my list:

1. Food

No party could be a party without some kind of food. Whether it's a small selectionof finger food or a full spread you can be sure that at some stage your guests will be hungry. This is one of the essential ingredients for a great party.

2. Music

In order to create an atmosphere and allow guests to break the ice you will need some kind of positive uplifting music. It could be nursery rhymes for a kids birthday or funky electro beats for a teenage celebration. Just imagine a party with no music and guests who maybe don't know each other.....Hmmmm!

3. Decorations

Make sure to brighten up the environment with the appropriate decorations. These can be large wall banners with slogans (i.e. happy birthday John) to paper lanterns and streamers.

4. Drinks

Soda pop for the kids and something harder for the adults. Make sure to have a good variety of drinks available as your guests are sure to have many tastes. If you are going to experiment with drinks (i.e. cocktails) make sure you do a test run so it doesn't blow up in your face.

5. Favors

Little surprise bags for the children or some small souviner to remember the celebration for the adults. Favors don't have to be expensive but I advise putting some thought into them because the most related and individual they are the more your guests will cherish them for years to come.

6. An MC

This in my opinion is also a key person needed for any party. His job is to welcome guests and make a speech at some stage. A good sense of humor is required as some guests may not be as social as others. They should also mingle with the crowd to introduce strangers and make sure all guests are having a good time.

7. Seating

Where the guests should sit is also very important. In such situations it is good to have cards with the guests name on the table. Make sure the places are accessible for older people and that the kids are together but under parental supervision.

8. Props

Hats, masks, party poppers, firecrackers, party horns, streamers or whatever takes your fancy also create a memorable atmosphere. Make sure they are appropriate to the theme and situation of the party.

9. Single Use Tableware

I don't know about you but I hate cleaning up after a large party. I have had a few drinks and am exhausted form playing host. I suggest using plastic cutlery and paper or plastic cups and plates. Paper napkins are also great. My motto is single use products.

10.Fresh Air

Often overlooked, this is also a very important item to remember. Even if it's winter myke sure there is plenty of fresh air. Even if it is opening the window for 5 minutes every hour. Large crowds in small laces use up the air and it can get very stuffy. This can make your guests tired and grumpy...especially kids!

Well, as I say, this list is in no way extensive but it should get your brain thinking in the right direction. Make sure you plan your party as early as you can and most importantly.....Have Fun!
